The TRIL Scholarship programme was established in 2007 under the IRCSET’s (Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology) enterprise partnership scheme (http://www.ircset.ie/). IRCSET is a government-funded body which funds post graduate and post doctoral research in Ireland.
In order to support the research activities of the TRIL Centre, Intel sponsors PhD level research students under the Enterprise Partnership scheme (http://www.ircset.ie/tabid/58/default.aspx) which are designated TRIL Centre scholarships in the following areas:
• Computer Science/Computing/Information Technologies/Bioinformatics
• Electronic Engineering
• Biomechanical Engineering
• Applied Mathematics
• Industrial Design
• Social Sciences
Each TRIL Scholar is assigned a mentor who provides technical guidance, access to Intel experts and technologies during the course of the student’s studies. Intel also provides opportunities for the students to join Intel's Health Research and Innovation Group based in Leixlip on industrial internships (6 to 11 months duration). During these internships the students get an opportunity to work within an innovative multidisciplinary team thus providing the candidates with the business, technical skills and competencies to operate in an industrial research environment. This also compliments TRIL Centre research activities with additional research in other areas of interest & provides a conduit back into the university system for TRIL Centre developed technologies such as BioMOBIUS™ and SHIMMER™.
